Moab Day 1

As usual we got a late start down to Moab on Friday so we just found a spot to camp at along the road just north of Green River.

After a great breakfast at the Green River BK we set off for Klondike Bluffs. Of course it wasn’t as easy as just unloading the bikes. OTB Chad had to get tires and pedals installed along with a quick fitting. This didn’t stop him from taking my Anthem out for a spin around the parking area.

Finally around noon we started up the road to the bluffs

We got about ¼ of a mile into the ride when an oncoming car forced us into some ruts. As I rode into the rut I could feel my back tire slide and then the bang of a tire blowing. As I looked down I could see my rear tire wrapped around my wheel. I guess the bead didn’t seat properly on rim. I ran back to the car with the bike and threw a tube on the rim and off we went.

It was good ride lots of fireroad with some sand and slickrock. We hiked up to the bluffs and got a spectacular view of Arches.

After a powerbar we started back to the car via the baby steps trail.

Finally after a shower at the hostel and dinner at some overpriced Mexican restaurant, we headed up Kane Creek to our camp.
