What a week!

It’s been a crazy week. I got bit by the flu bug I suspect Monday night and spent most of the week trying to recover. I finally broke down and bought the Edge 305,

what a great product. I’m a gadget guy so this thing is great. It will tell you just about everything you want to know about your ride.

I got out Saturday and tested it. (Bob, this is the kind of “wildlife” you should encounter on a ride, behind a fence).

It was a learning experience. I don’t recommend setting the autopause to anything below 1 mph as the variance in positioning can make it look like you are moving at .2 or .5 mph at a stoplight and the beeping of the Edge starting and stopping was annoying at one long light. One feature that I really dig is the autolap. Just to test it I rode past the spot I started my ride at and sure enough the Edge clicked off a lap. The next decision is what training software to use since the Garmin Training Center seems to lack. Motionbased.com and Cycling Peaks seem to be the two big names out there. I’m not sure if the monthly fee of 7.95-11.95 / month is worth it for Motionanbased although having the online backup would be nice.

Looking forward to using the workouts this week indoors I may have to try one of Grizzy Adam’s workout modes on the Edge and see how I do. Good luck to everyone heading down to the ICUP race in St. George, wish I could go, but starting a new job means zero vacation balance!

I just wanted to point out that Cycling Peaks WKO+ does back up to the web at TrainingPeaks.com. There is a one-click upload feature within WKO+ as long as you have a TrainingPeaks account. TrainingPeaks provides maps of your workouts in addition to planning tools to help you train.
