Pedalfest should have been my best race of the year. Everything was lining up to make it "my" race. Cold wet condition meant I wouldn't be suffering in the heat and the downhill would be fast. Saturday I arrived extra early at 7:45 to make sure I could get a long warm up in. My warm up told me I was in trouble. My legs had no zip to them but I was determined not to let the excellent conditions go to waste. As we lined up it became apparent that while the top 3 places were pretty much decided, a batlle for the 4-7 spots was brewing and I was hoping to be in the mix. As the race started I did my best to stay with the group. I pushed harder then I wanted and managed to stay close to the lead group. This early push would be my undoing as I had nothing left for little stick or the village climb. Racer after racer pushed past me and at one point I even saw Mark creeping up behind. I managed to recover on the Gap downhill and get around some riders and made a strong effort to get around some riders on the second little stick climb but if it wasn't for a flat by Utahmountainbiking Steve I would/should have ended up in 7th instead of 6th. As much as I don't want to give USA Cycling money I've considering doing the Deer Valley National to prove that I can do better on that course.
Time for some R&R and a week off the bike to let the legs rest.

Oh man, it sounds like I've become the official lanterne rouge of Sport 35-39. I should request a special black team jersey as befits the role! Maybe I'll start racing down in the Sport 30-34 group as they seem to always have a few guys slower than me...
Keep watching what's creeping up behind you as one of these races/months/years I will have the legs & skills necessary to compete!
I keep waiting for your super secret training to kick in and then I'll have start trying to stay on your wheel.
