Local Media

It's nice to see some coverage of the Utah racing scene. The Salt Lake Trib consistently provides some coverage of racing in Utah. There was a mention of the state cyclocross championships yesterday and a great gallery here including a nice pic of the Reverend Steven (chops) P.

I took part in the warm state championships as well. The C group had over 40 starters and with no call up for me I made sure I was there in time to get on the third row. I managed to hold my place on the first short lap and then slowly settled into a pace. With three laps to go I had caught a couple of guys and got caught by a few. I convinced Bikeman Aaron on the final lap to take a hard pull on the long backstretch to shake a rider off the back of us and bridge up to another rider that went off the front of our group earlier in the lap. Aaron managed to close and took the hole shot on him going into the first set of single track. I followed him and was getting prepared for a three man finish. I decided to make my move on the next U-turn hoping my mountain bike would be able to get a gap in the sand and avoid having to sprint against a real cross bike. I made my move and surprisingly wasn't able to shake the guy we had just passed. I push really hard heading into the final barrier and bobbled the remount. I was expecting to see the guy come around me and was thinking about how I could come around him at the finish. He didn't make a move and as I rounded the last corner I could feel him there and the roar of the crowd anticipating a sprint told me this wasn't over. I decided to dig hard hoping to keep him from coming around and crossed the finish with him in tow for a 12th place finish.
