As Adam has pointed out, the start of the ICUP season was last weekend. I didn't participate mostly due to my lack of training. In talking to a couple of guys that did the race they brought up the ugly subject of sandbagging.
It seems that no matter what cycling event you go to, there are always a couple of sandbaggers. Last fall for the Utah State Cyclocross Championships the winner of the C flite was an Expert mountain bike racer. It was the only CX race the guy did all year and he clearly was in the wrong category.
Looking at the results from the LOTOJA race there were a couple of Citizen class riders that would have done well in the CAT 3 flite. At the St. George ICUP race last week I heard that there were a couple of riders in the Sport division that clearly should have been in the expert class. Last year in the Sport class there were two riders that should have moved up half-way through the season and didn't.
What is the responsibility that the event promoter has to enforce the standard 5 races and then you move up in mountain bike racing? Should it be left strictly to the other racers to pressure these riders to move up?

Who is crying? I was making an observation. If winning is the only thing that matters to you then your life is going to full of disappointment.
What's worse a sandbagger or a teabagger? I'm not down with biking lingo....
